Bifocal Contact Lenses and Monovision

For those patients over the age of forty who need correction for distance and near, monovison and bifocal contact lenses reduce the patient’s dependency on reading glasses.

Soft contact lenses and Gas Permeable Lenses can both incorporate this strategy of correction.

Monovision is when the patient’s dominant or sighting eye is corrected for distance vision and the other eye is corrected for near vision.  Eighty percent of patients are able to successfully wear their lenses this way.  Advanced bifocal contact lens designs  have allowed these lenses to out perform monovision.  In this modality, each contact lens has distance, intermediate and near vision incorporated into it.
