Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses
RGP contact lenses are made of a breathable rigid material. This is in contrast to the old “hard lenses” that were not permeable to oxygen. RGPs can correct every type of refractive error including regular astigmatism. They provide the sharpest vision when compared to soft contact lenses and glasses. RGPs also correct for irregular astigmatism and are often used to manage patients with keratoconus, corneal transplant, and previous ocular trauma. New designs and larger diameters have significantly improved the comfort of this type of contact lens.
